Short-term Parking in Vienna

In Vienna, as in many other cities in Europe short-term parking may apply to individual streets or to entire areas (districts 1 to 9, 20 and parts of the 15th district). Short-term parking zones are chargeable and are marked by the following traffic signs.

Beginning: blue circle with red rim
End: black circle with grey rim
White additional signs indicate:

• Maximum admissible parking duration (for example: two hours)

• Times of short-term parking validity (for example: Monday to Friday, weekdays, 9 am to 10 pm

There may be additional blue markings to indicate short-term parking zones, these are for your orientation only.

Area-wide short-term parking zones

Parking space management has turned entire districts or large connected parts thereof into short-term parking zones. Area-wide short-term parking now covers districts 1 to 9 and 20. In the 15th district the area between Gürtel, Felberstraße, Johnstraße, Stutterheimstraße and Gablenzgasse is also a short-term parking zone.

In districts 1 to 9 and 20 short-term parking applies on weekdays from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 10 pm. In the 15th district short-term parking applies daily from 6 pm to 11 pm, but not in July and in August. Maximum parking duration is in all districts two hours. Some of the main shopping streets in these districts, such as Mariahilfer Straße, Lerchenfelder Straße and Alser Straße have a maximum parking duration of 1.5 hours for which there is no exception.

Traffic signs for short-term parking

Traffic signs "Kurzparkzone Anfang" (beginning) and "Kurzparkzone Ende" (end) are found upon entering or leaving the short-term parking zone only. Note that there are no additional traffic signs within the area to indicate you are in a short-term parking zone!

Parking fees

• You must fill in a prepaid parking voucher (Parkschein) for a maximum duration of two hours.

• There are permanent parking permits (Parkpickerl) for residents in the area. These are available at the municipal district offices for an annual fee of EUR 192.89 for districts 1 to 9 and 20 and EUR 118.49 for the 15th district.

• Companies and firms may apply for a temporary parking permit ("Einlegetafel") at the Vienna Economic Chamber.

• Exceptions: For main streets and shopping streets in these districts there are separate short-term parking times indicated on the white additional signs. Car owners with a valid permanent parking permit need not fill in additional parking vouchers for main streets and shopping streets in their district. They must, however, display a properly set parking disc and not outstay the maximum parking duration indicated on the white additional signs.

1. Short-park-zones

The old Viennese city (1st District) and its surrounding districts (2nd-9th and 20th) all apply to the short-park-zone regulations. When you park your car, you have to post the paid short-park-zone ticket above the driver’s board. The maximum duration at a short-park-zone is limited to 2 hours. When you park here you need a valid parking permit behind your windscreen from the first minute of your stay.

2. Short-park-zone tickets

These have to be put fully filled out inside the car, on the driving board, visible for any police man/government employee. These tickets are available in most tobacconists, kiosks, train stations, Banks, driving schools and similar institutions, garages, paper shops, lottery ticket collecting offices, ticket machines at centrally located Vienna public transport underground stations (parking vouchers for 30 minutes only), all points of advance sale, automobile clubs ARBO and OAMTC and some, Vienna Lines ticket offices and Petrol/Gas Stations.

3. Rates for parking

To park your car for up to ten minutes you are not required to pay parking fees. You must fill in a free-of-charge parking voucher (ten minute parking voucher).

4. 10-minute tickets

The 10-minute ticket allows the car to stop at a certain spot for a maximum duration of 10 minutes. The 10-minute ticket is invalid when you try to attach /combine it with any of the other three short-park-zone tickets. These tickets are available in kiosks and tobacconists for free of charge.

5. Disables/Wheelchairs

Disables/Wheelchairs are permitted to park in any short-park-zone at all times (with certified ID on the driver’s board).

6. Short-park-zone regulations

In short-park-zones, the following apply: In the 1st District from Monday to Friday (work days) between 9:00 until 19:00 a maximum stay of 1 hour and 30 minutes is permitted. In the districts 2nd, 3rd, 4th until 9th, 9th and 20th district, the following regulations apply: Monday to Friday (work days) between 9:00 until 20:00 a maximum stay of 2 hours is permitted.

7. Cautions

The shopping streets during Saturdays between are 8:00-12:00 are also included and charged to the above regulations. For exact descriptions, please follow the signs posted on these streets.
